Ready when
you speak.
Shortcuts
fn Hold to dictate. Release to paste. fn + space Lock recording; press again to finish. esc Cancel.
These are the defaults on an Apple keyboard. With a non-Apple keyboard, the defaults are Option+N to dictate and Option+Space to toggle recording. Change shortcuts in Settings.
Permissions
Enable Microphone to record your voice. Enable Accessibility in System Settings → Privacy & Security so Whisnap can paste text where your cursor is. Reopen Whisnap after changing permissions if macOS asks.
Choosing a model
Parakeet v3 is the default on-device model and requires macOS 14 or newer. Install a model from the catalog before your first dictation. Match its supported languages to what you speak; model downloads need internet access, on-device dictation does not.
Browse the model catalogUsing your own provider key
Using your own provider key is free. Configure your provider and key in the app. When you choose that provider, requests travel directly from your Mac to it. Whisnap does not receive your audio. Your key stays in macOS Keychain. Your provider’s pricing and privacy policy apply. Choose an on-device model to keep processing local.
Pro activation
Buy Pro on the website with an account. Open the Mac app and sign in with the same account. Pro unlocks automatically. There is no license key. Pro features stay visible but locked until activation.
Webhooks
Pro can connect your dictation workflow to a webhook endpoint. Configure its URL and secret in the app, and choose which data to send. Data you choose to send goes to that endpoint; check its privacy policy before enabling audio delivery.
CLI
CLI integration is free. In the Mac app, choose “Install command line tool” to create a symlink to the bundled tool. The standalone engine has not been published.
Read the CLI guideTroubleshooting
If text did not paste, check Whisnap’s Accessibility permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Enable it, return to a text field, then try again. If nothing records, check Microphone permission and the selected input device.
If Pro stays locked, verify that the Mac app uses the same account email as your purchase.
